Here's what the world looks like on World Population Day: Half of the world's people are under the age of 25. In 57 developing countries, over 40 per cent of the population is under the age of 15, and about 3 billion children and young people are, or will soon be, of reproductive age.
These statistics are from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which sponsors World Population Day. The UNFPA works to raise awareness around the world about population and development issues. With the global population increasing daily, young people must learn to make responsible choices about sexual and reproductive health. Tuesday, 11 July, join Talk to America host Rick Pantaleo and his guests Fama Hane-Ba, director of UNFPA's Africa division, and John Weeks, director of the International Population Center at California's San Diego State University, for an in-depth discussion of the latest population issues.
Talk to America airs live Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) / 1400 UTC. The 60-minute program reaches millions of listeners around the globe and addresses a wide range of topics from U.S. foreign policy to American movies and sports. Callers can ask questions of guests via telephone, fax, SMS Text Messaging, and the Internet. To listen to streamed programs or get more information, visit the show's web page at www.VOANews.com/talk.
